Welcome to the Dunmore United Methodist Church I am Ken Bitler the pastor. I am a graduate of Tunkhannock Area School District (1971), West Virginia Wesleyan College(1976) and Lancaster Theological Seminary (1981). I have been serving as the pastor of churches since 1973. Thirty-two churches have been served by me during the past 35 years. I read and preach the New Common Lectionary nearly every Sunday. My sermons are based on the Scriptures of the Bible, my life experience, stories of my friends in the ministry, and reading in The Interpreter magazine and The Christian Century magazine. Our worship is traditional with contemporary hymns and worship styles. Come to Worship and Serve our Lord with your time and your devotion.
The specialties in ministry that I have cultivated are a love of the study of church history. The practice of prayer for individuals, groups and the worshipping congregation is important in the strenthening of believer's faith in God. Vacation Bible School has given me a good time to work with the children in developing thier relationships with God and as followers of Jesus Christ. I am also involved in direct missions work locally, in our conference, the USA and in the World. My World emphasis is in teaching the Bible in Jamaica to children and youth in 6 churches in the Savanna-La-Mar Circuit in southeastern Jamaica. In the USA I coordiate the collection of gifts and drive the shipment of 900 Christmas gifts to The United Methodist missions at Frakes, Kentucky called Henderson Settlement and at Beverly , KY called the Red Bird Mission. Locally I promote the feeding of the hungry through our food pantries, St Fancis of Assisi Soup Kitchen , and special needs.
